One of the things that still gets me excited about living in Wisconsin is when the owls come to visit. I always run to the window to see if I can spot one but this is usually at night. I may not be able to see them, but I can hear their beautiful cries. So it's long overdue to have finally captured their hoots.
I love using samples but have been working with pre-existing sources. Nothing wrong with that, but I've had the itch to get into field recording. At the MOTS in Milwaukee this past September someone suggested that I get the Tascam DR-05 Linear PCM Recorder. So I did! It's super easy to use. When owls make a surprise visit, this comes in handy.
Here are some initial recordings of nature right at my home. It's added a fun dimension to my learning and creation process. And now there's even more personal attachment to the audio that makes up my music.
